The staff there is very helpful, and has good tenure, which is very important to me, not to mention the price is good, which is not the only issue, but the price is in line with what I expect. I was able to see people eating, and the food appeared to be good; the selections were good. I also visited here and recommended it to one of my mom's friends. The rooms were great and big in size, too. It looked like a restaurant with nice table settings.
Mistakes to Avoid When Choosing Assisted Living
My mom has moved into Cedarhurst of Springfield MO. They do a good job of taking care of her. They specialize in memory care, which is my mom's biggest problem. They seem to do a good job taking care of the facility. I like that they have outside people come in and give music therapy. They have karaoke with residents, too, and they do sing-a-long. For people who are losing their memories, one thing they don't lose is music, so it's a good way for them to connect.
They have a great team of professionals who are very attentive, very caring, involved and engaged with the residents. They provide excellent communication about the residents and make themself available at all times. Definietly a 5 Star rating and facility unfortunately the website wouldn't allow me to give 5 starts BUT DEFINITELY 5 star facility. Cedarhurst of Oakwood is a very nice facility. The rooms are either single rooms or double rooms. They only have 11 in one area and 7 in another, so my wife would be well looked after.

I toured their place, I met their administrator, and she was very nice. My mom fell, it increased her dementia and Alzheimer's, and the facility thought she would be very suited for memory care, and so they moved her to their memory care unit. I was not able to get in and really see her, or spend any time with her, so I had to do window visits. I felt like we were not at the right facility in memory care.

That's what I like about it, it's personal with them. They were the only one that accepted him because they were the only ones that were willing to come out and actually talk to him. The director talked to him, and he complimented her on her purse. Immediately she thought, "Well, he doesn't seem to be a danger right now." So, they were the only ones that took the time to have seen, and visually talked to him. The others just went by the paperwork that the hospital had, and they were all refusing to take him. What's near "Cedarhurst Dementia Care Home"
They had activities, like exercises, in the morning. During my visit, I saw the ladies doing exercises all together. They also had movies and shopping days. This place was a little cheaper, and I would have chosen it, given the chance. Small Living Spaces- Our small home-like setting features only 26 people living in four separate units.
They have very beautiful common areas which are spacious, and nice. Dad has done very well in this facility, and we are very pleased with the staff. Maple Wood is very nice, and the staff is wonderful. Everything about the place is wonderful.
The one thing I like about there is convenience. It's easy to get there and get back home. It's easy to get in, and it's all good. Work with an agent who specializes in helping seniors and has connections with a network of transition experts.

They had activities but the atmosphere wouldn't work for my mother-in-law. It seemed a little more updated and didn't have that homey feeling to us. They had a movie night, trivia night, bingo, church on Sundays, painting classes, crocheting, and different things on the weekends. The dining area was fine, but we didn't try the food.
We did get a sample menu and it looked like really good food, like the kind of stuff my in-laws would have eaten. It was a new and modern place, and the facilities were lovely. My mother would have ended up in their dementia unit which was a locked-down facility, and it wouldn't have been good for her. The person who assisted us was good and answered all our questions. We saw the residents eating, and they looked happy. My mother-in law was a resident of Maplewood.
Between my brother and I, we visit often on days, evenings and weekends and the building always looks and smells great. My in-laws will be looking into moving to Georgia from Tennessee soon and I would not think twice about moving them here. Dementia Specialists -We specialize in providing a secure and caring home for people living with mild to moderate dementia. All of our staff are fully engaged in serving this population. Maple Wood is really quite large, but it is quiet. I did eat there, and I thought the food was pretty good.
